Coega Wellness Centre is now a Covid-19 vaccination site

GETTING THE JAB: CDC employee, Ms. Ncediswa Jacobs, vaccinated by one of the trained and qualified Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner, Sr Siphosethu Jarana, at the Coega Wellness Centre.

Gqeberha, 05 August 2021 - With the country’s vaccination roll out process well underway, the Coega Development Corporation (CDC) announced today that the CDC Wellness Centre in Zone 4 of the Coega Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is now a COVID-19 public vaccination site, servicing (a) CDC employees, (b) tenants and their employees located at both the Coega SEZ including contractors and Nelson Mandela Bay Logistics Park (NMBLP) and (c) the surrounding community of Motherwell & Wells Estate. This is in line with the CDC’s ongoing commitment to building healthy communities in realisation of our vision - to be a leading catalyst for championing of the socio-economic development and contribute to the important national effort to defeat the Pandemic, said CDC’s SHEQ Unit Head, Ms. Viwe Biyana.

The vaccines administered at the CDC Wellness Centre are supplied by the Department of Health (DOH). The approval from DOH came into effect on Monday, 02 August 2021.

The CDC has already commenced the vaccination roll out and therefore invites employees of tenants located within the Coega SEZ, including contractors, NMBLP and surrounding communities of Motherwell and Wells Estate, added Ms. Biyana.

Persons aged 35 years and above who have not yet registered nor had their vaccinations are encouraged to register on the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) Self Registration Portal:https://vaccine.enroll.health.gov.za/#/. Furthermore, people are encouraged to include the following address on the portal when registering for vaccination in the CDC Wellness Centre: R102 Old Coega Road, Markman, Human Capital Solutions.

Upon completion of registration, bookings must be made by calling 041 404 7336 to confirm a slot. Alternatively, walk-ins will be allowed for community residents who do not have access to the internet. The clinics vaccination hours are from 10:00am – 15:00pm.

It’s important to highlight that vaccination is a personal choice (voluntary) and therefore the CDC wish to urge everyone to make an informed decision. In addition, persons are encouraged to familiarise themselves with SA government website for some important Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) on the vaccination programme: Vaccine FAQs | South African Government (www.gov.za)

The following items should be taken with to the vaccination site:
Your identity document;
Your medical aid membership card, if applicable;
Your own pen; and
Water (in case of long queues).

CDC Vaccination Process:

Booking – CDC employees/tenants’ employees to book a time slot in advance for vaccination.

Screening – At the gate and at the Coega Human Capital Solutions (HCS) hall for COVID-19. It will be determined at the HCS hall whether an individual has been registered on the EVDS. Persons not registered will be assisted on site to be registered for vaccination. We encourage you to register before coming to the CDC Wellness Centre for an efficient service.

Vaccination – Vaccines will be administered inside the CDC Wellness Centre where there will be 3 vaccination stations.

Observation – To monitor and ensure that no complications develop after the vaccine has been administered. This will take at least 15 minutes after an individual has been vaccinated.

We would like to emphasise the following:

The vaccination site caters for both medical aid cardholders and non-medical aid cardholders;

The CDC security personnel will be available to assist with and monitoring long queues;

COVID-19 protocols, such as physical distancing, sanitisation of hands and wearing of masks will be observed; and

Wheelchair access, seating, and ablutions facilities will be provided.

The CDC Wellness Centre team will utilise trained and qualified staff to receive, store and oversee the dispensation of the vaccines. Moreover, the team will ensure that the vaccination of staff and local communities is conducted safely and carefully managed.

“We look forward to welcoming people to the CDC Wellness Centre and encourage all to sanitise, wear your masks, and stay safe, concludes, Ms. Biyana.
