The CDC nabs three culprits at the historic farmhouse

Hougham Park Farmhouse restoration process bears fruits

The CDC announced today that it has apprehended three culprits responsible for carrying out acts of vandalism at the historic farmhouse. The culprits, who have been handed over to the police are expected to appear at the Motherwell Magistrate Court today.

“The CDC would like to commend the swift work by the CDC security personnel and SAPS in apprehending the suspects,” says Dr Ayanda Vilakazi, Unit Head: Marketing, Brand and Communications

Following the vandalism incident that occurred at Hougham Park Farmhouse the CDC has implemented the Open Space Management Plan (OSMP) as part of its short to long term approach on the project.

Much of the OSMP covers approximately 2100 ha of land, which maintains ecological processes and functions whilst including a heritage component. The CDC has provided boarding up opening doors and windows, relocating the CDC plant rescue nursery to the facility, maintaining vegetation growth, cleaning the cemetery and stepping up security patrols

“As a result the provision of security improvements at the farmhouse through high levels of security presence, electronic surveillance of the facility, vegetation control, landscaping and physical improvements have led to the success of the operation,” says Graham Taylor, CDC Spatial Development Manager.

“We certainly are delighted that the implementation of our approach is bearing fruits and we’ve managed to act swiftly and decisively in the process of renewing the historic farmhouse,” concludes Dr Vilakazi.
